Bike Rent Terms and Conditions
Bikerent.is is a commercial brand which is owned and operated by Dótel ehf. Id number 480410-0250.
Rental Terms and Conditions for bike rentals
- Renter is obliged to return the bicycle and equipment in the same condition as when it was rented out
- Renter confirms that he/she is competent to use the bike and equipment in a responsible way and will use it as it was designed to be used.
- Renter confirms that he/she will not use the bicycle equipment unless they are in a mental and physical state to use the equipment in a responsible way.
- Renter understands that carbon material used in the gravel and road bikes has different qualities than aluminium or steel and does not withstand the same treatment.
- Renter will not modify or change the bikes or equipment without the approval of BikeRent.is. Exceptions are seat post height adjustments and tire fixes in case of flats.
- Delay in returning the bicycles or equipment will result in payment for the overtime according to the price list at each time.
- In the event of the bike or equipment being stolen or lost during the rental period, the participant accepts the liability to pay for the replacement value of the bike and/or equipment lost and/or stolen.
- In case of material damage to the bicycle or equipment, the damage will be valued by BikeRent.is and the corresponding amount charged to the renter.
- BikeRent.is and Dótel ehf. accepts no responsibility for any injuries, accidents, death or any physical or psychological damages resulting from usage of BikeRent.is bicycles or equipment, before, during or after the rental period.
- Renter agrees to be responsible, polite, follow all traffic rules and generally be a good cyclist and not an idiot.
- We try to be very flexible with changes and cancellations. However, we have limited supply of bikes and high demand in summer. Changes and cancellations therefore can be very costly for us. Therefore we have decided on the following change and cancellation policy:More than 14 days’ notice: 100% refund and any changes allowed. (as long as there is availability).
Less than 14 days’ notice: 80% refund or changes allowed for a 20% fee
Less than 48 hours notice; No refund or changes.
Rental Terms and Conditions for bike box storage, hereafter also named "left luggage"
1. Left luggage
The Storer certifies that the stored luggage does not include any of the following items: Cash and securities, Food or perishable goods, Living plants or animals, Waste, Flammable or hazardous goods, Illegal goods, Toxic, polluted or contaminated goods, Firearms, munitions or explosives, Radioactive materials
2. Storage Location
The Storage Provider certifies that they have legal right to let or sub-let the Locker to the Storer for the duration allowed by Clause 4.
The Storer agrees that the stored baggage may be removed from the original storage location without prior notice to store in another location for a part of the storage.
3. Storage Term and Payment
The Storage Provider agrees to store the luggage on a 1 day basis in exchange for payment stated in the deposit process, payable at the time of order.
4. Beginning and Ending Dates
Storage will begin at the time of deposit, and will continue until the Storer claims the baggage.
5. Access to the left luggage
The Storage Provider will provide the Storer access to the luggage at the storage location at the times stated in the booking or at times that have been mutually decided between the Storage Provider and the Storer.
6. Use of luggage
The Storage Provider will not use the luggage, or permit it to be used by anyone else, without the Storer's prior consent.
7. Reclaiming left luggage
The Storer may reclaim the baggage at any time but needs to give the Storage Provider reasonable time to react and accommodate the request if changes to the storage time or storage delivery occur. The Storage Provider may refuse to return the baggage if there are unpaid charges and/or if the Storage Provider is instructed to withhold return of the baggage by a court or law enforcement officer.
8. Failure to Reclaim left luggage
If the Storer fails to reclaim the luggage, the Storage Provider may continue to store the luggage at the daily rate until the Storer reclaims the luggage. The Storage Provider may require the Storer to pay accrued storage fees before returning the luggage. If the luggage is not collected 30 days after the last day of storage according to Clause 4, the Storage Provider may deem the luggage abandoned, sell it to pay for outstanding storage fees, and hold the balance (minus reasonable costs of sale) for the Storer, or otherwise dispose of the luggage as they see fit.
9. Changes and cancellations
Changes; A fee of 1000 isk pr. bike box.
From booking until 30 days before departure: A full refund minus a change/cancellation fee of 1000 isk. pr. bike box.
From 30 days until 48 hours before departure: The daily storage fee is refunded. The base fee is not refunded.
Less than 48 hours before departure: no refund.
10. Early Reclaiming
If the Storer reclaims the baggage during a period for which payment has been made, no pro rata refund will be made.
11. Return to Someone Other Than the Storer
The Storer may transfer the rights to reclaim the baggage, to another person after notifying the Storage Provider.
12. Liability
The Storage Provider agrees to exercise reasonable care to protect the luggage from loss, theft, or damage. The Storage Provider is not liable for loss, theft, or damage to the luggage caused by the Storer or third party. The Storer agrees to be liable for damage to the luggage, the bike box lockers or storage location caused by inherent or defective condition of the luggage or the reckless or destructive actions on his behalf. The Storage Provider is not liable for costs incurred by the Storer due to problems retrieving the luggage
The Storer may insure the luggage against loss, theft, or damage under the Storers' or other insurance policy.
13. Disputes
If a dispute arises, The Storer and the Storage Provider will try in good faith to settle it through mediation. The Storer and the Storage Provider will share the costs of the mediator equally. If the dispute is not resolved within 30 days after it is referred to the mediator, either the Storer or the Storage Provider may take the matter to court and shall then be settled by Héraðsdómur Reykjavíkur (The District Court of Reykjavik)
